Archaeological underwater surveys

Changes to the waterbed during construction, dredging, or laying cables/pipes require a survey to determine whether there are any possible ancient remains or other archaeologically or historically valuable sites in the area. This report is often also part of the required environmental impact assessment. (EIA). Archaeological surveys must also be taken into account during the planning phase of zoning and underwater construction.

We conduct archaeological underwater surveys in accordance with the quality guidelines of the Finnish National Board of Antiquities.

Analysis of multibeam echo sounder and side scan sonar data

We analyze existing data, for example for archaeological research.

Documentation of underwater objects and sites

We create 3D models of underwater objects and document them with video and photography. Objects can include wrecks, pier structures, submerged objects and other structures, as well as natural structures such as boulders to be removed.

In low visibility, an underwater object can only be understood once it has been photographed from all sides and a 3D model has been processed from thousands of images.

Documentation is an important part of working, as it ensures that information is preserved and shared in the future.

Search for underwater objects

Our equipment enables the search and location of both small objects and large targets underwater.

We are capable of mapping very large areas with side scan sonar and also exploring small areas with the help of a diving robot (ROV).

Sampling

Our vessels are suitable for various sampling applications.
